Dumping Paint or Remodeling Materials in Storm Sewer

On June 25, 2024 we received an incident report from a resident whom found white residue on a storm sewer grate in front of a Georgetown residence.  Investigation found white substance on a grate with a small nugget of what appears to be plaster in the bottom of the basin. All other materials had been washed away with the over night rains. Public Works staff checked downstream for further evidence of the dumping and found nothing else in the area.

Dumping materials into a storm sewer is illegal and goes directly to ponds, streams and rivers. There is no treatment process to remove contaminants of paint, chemicals or other liquids being dumped into a storm drain.
